It is a great disappointment when learners in their final school year realize that the subjects they have chosen in their grade 9 year do not allow them to apply for their preferred study field.  Informed decision on subject choices will lead to informed decisions when it comes to choosing a career. A subject choice assessment is performed in grade 9 to guide the learners to make informed and well-grounded subject choices.  It is important that learners should be supported and guided with advice to enable them eventually to make their OWN choices as far as possible.

 

For learners to make informed subject choices the learners’ current scholastic performance, aptitude, interest, personality and future plans and goals will be taken into consideration.  These are the aspects which will be examined during the subject choice assessment.  The results of the assessment will be put in a report and discussed with the learner.
